Wildhorse Golf Club Recognized for Environmental Excellence

HENDERSON, NV – Wildhorse Golf Club has achieved designation as a "Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary" through the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program for Golf Courses, an Audubon International program. Scott Sutton, Superintendent, has led the effort to obtain sanctuary status on this course and is being recognized for Environmental Stewardship by Audubon International. Wildhorse Golf Club is the 6th course in Nevada and the 940th in the world to receive the honor.

"Wildhorse Golf Club has shown a strong commitment to its environmental program. They are to be commended for their efforts to provide a sanctuary for wildlife on the golf course property," said Joellen Lampman, Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Programs Director.

"To reach certification, a course must demonstrate that they are maintaining a high degree of environmental quality in a number of areas," explained Lampman. These categories include: Environmental Planning, Wildlife & Habitat Management, Outreach and Education, Chemical Use Reduction and Safety, Water Conservation, and Water Quality Management.

"It is a great honor for Wildhorse Golf Club to be recognized as a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary," said Andy Wright, Manager of Wright Golf. "With the support of the City of Henderson Council, Administrators, and Staff we are very proud to implement programs that help protect and preserve the environment. We thank our Golf Course Superintendent, Scott Sutton, for his tremendous effort in obtaining certification. We also look forward to continual improvement of the golf course in partnership with our Community and Audubon International."

The Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program for Golf Courses, endorsed by the United States Golf Association, provides information and guidance to help golf courses preserve and enhance wildlife habitat, and protect natural resources. Golf courses from the United States, Africa, Australia, Canada, Central America, Europe, New Zealand, and Southeast Asia have also achieved certification in the program. Audubon certified courses in Nevada also include: Championship Course at Incline Village and Mountain Golf Course at Incline Village, both in Incline Village; Montreux Golf & Country Club in Reno; and TPC Summerlin and TPC Las Vegas, both in Las Vegas.
